Beyond practice ready

Background

On the heels of developing a strategic plan, the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS) launched the Discovery for Life campaign, focused on three priorities: endowed scholarships, student experience (infrastructure, academic initiatives, and entrepreneurial projects), and bridges to industry (new course and program offerings).

Scope

Tone and Art Direction
Campaign Identity System
Case for Support
Marketing Collateral
Microsite Design

Results

The goal of the campaign was to raise $11 million, but when it closed at the end of 2021, it had exceeded its goal and raised $14.4 million to support the education and development of students pursuing careers in pharmacy and the health sciences, including the Stack Family Center for Biopharmaceutical Education and Training (CBET), the first in the nation at a pharmacy college.

The building blocks
of a campaign

Attributes

The campaign focused on a few key attributes: bold, powerful, impactful, unique, breakthrough, educational, and "beyond practice ready." Put together, our core campaign descriptor was: BOLD BIOLOGY.

Visual Identity

We developed a concept inspired by genetic markers that focused on the idea of building blocks: building blocks of life, the campaign, and the college. They also allude to the decorative elements of the campus library, something recognizable to alumni.

Campaign Logo

The logo's three bars of building blocks reflect the three priorities of the campaign. It captures three distinct color gradients, each of which was assigned to a specific campaign priority for clear messaging opportunities.

Color Palette

Three color gradients would represent each priority: red-orange (Endowed Scholarships), blue-teal (Student Experience), and red-purple (Bridges to Industry).

Campaign
microsite

The microsite needed to be vibrant to grab your attention. As you scroll, we incorporate the campaign DNA building blocks to visually depict the campaign progress. Because each strand of logo represents a campaign priority, we broke the campaign fundraising totals down to three individual progress bars rather than one. This provides more transparency and clarity that is also simple and quick to understand what the funds support.
